The Best Wine Country Vacation Rentals
As the wine and spirits industry continues to boom, vacation rentals near breweries, distilleries, and wineries continue to gain popularity. As the old saying goes, real estate is all about location, location, location. So, we’ve created a list of the most popular wineries that offer great locations for your next vacation rental.
Taylor Brooke Winery (Woodstock, Conn.)
The winery and its rich selection of red and white wines draw visitors year-round. Its super-sweet dessert wines are notably a hit with the holiday crowds. But it’s breaking new ground this year with the opening of an on-site brewery—making it the first combination winery-brewery in the state. This could mean a new stream of beer enthusiasts alongside the already-abundant stream of wine aficionados. A vacation rental home near Taylor Brooke will be well-placed to tap into both. That home will also be on some of the best ground in the northeast for property value: Woodstock has a median income of $300,000 and a median home value that tops the national median by nearly 50 grand–$235,000 versus $185,500, respectively, according to Berkshire Hathaway.
The Cottage Vineyard and Winery (Cleveland, Ga.)
This down-home, rustic vineyard in the Georgia mountains is a tourism magnet. Some credit for that goes to the winery’s enchanting valley scenery; some more goes to its signature red and white brands tinged with flavors of pecan, hazelnut, butter, and oak. But wine isn’t the only thing bringing tourists down to Cleveland. The surrounding White County offers a bounty of hiking trails, zip-lining adventures, and river banks for fishing, kayaking, tubing, and even panning for gold! You’ll probably feel like you’ve struck gold if you buy a vacation rental home here, with families from across the state booking rooms for family-friendly vacation fun.
Glen Manor Vineyards (Front Royal, Va.)
Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the well-traveled nature trails of Shenandoah National Park, Glen Manor Vineyards is an intersection of fine wine and gorgeous natural greenery. For a vacation rental property owner like you, this means steady foot traffic—literally—of hikers along with the year-round arrivals of wine drinkers looking to taste Glen Manor’s wares.
Hawkins Cellars (Dundee, Ore.)
Oregon is a great place to be a wine lover, thanks to the Oregon Wine Passport program—a customer buys one passport and gets discounts at wineries all across the state. Hawkins Cellars is an especially popular stop, owing to its acclaimed selection of pinot noirs, Bordeaux, and other bestselling wines, and the 12 luxurious tasting rooms in which to try them. Travel & Leisure names it “the top-rated winery in the Pacific Northwest,” and “one of the 20 best wineries in the country”—and you can be sure that wine-tasting tourists across the state are paying attention. That’s not all: The town of Dundee is also home to Zerba Cellars, Fox Farm Dundee, and other well-renowned wineries. Oregon is wine country, and a rental home here in Dundee will be smack dab in a wine country hotspot.
Hermosa Vineyards (Palisade, Colo.)
Colorado is well-known for its skiing and craft breweries. But the state’s wineries are finally starting to get their moment in the sun. Travel & Leisure awarded the title “#1 best winery outside of California” to one Colorado-based winery: Hermosa Vineyards. This positive press is sure to drum up curious tourists who are looking for wine and the experience of something new. They can find both in Hermosa and its neighboring city, Palisade, which is already an enticing vacation location thanks to its scenic mountain trails, bike paths, and country farm tours. All of which makes this one excellent place to be the owner of a vacation rental home.
Palmaz Vineyards (Napa, Calif.)
As long as there is wine, we can be sure there will be wine connoisseurs arriving in droves to visit Napa’s legendary wineries. All of this makes Napa real-estate market hot—and pricey. Zillow reports that the median home value is $775,000 and shot up 6% in the past year. But the prices are high because business is good. All the more so around Palmaz, which gets solid ratings for its expert wine-tour guides, gourmet food pairings, and superb wine variety. While Cabernet is its specialty, it’s got an abundance of chardonnays, pinot noirs, and other wines of choice.
Ecluse Wines (Paso Robles, Calif.)
California sets a high bar for red wine, so when the San Francisco Chronicle names a vineyard “best red wine,” that title carries some weight. Ecluse in Paso Robles received this very honor in the past year, and you can be sure that wine drinkers in San Francisco and beyond will come to Paso Robles to see—and taste—it for themselves. Now’s a great time to get a vacation rental property in town and catch the wave. It may pay even further dividends in the long run, as the home market, in general, is in good shape: Paso Robles’ median home values rose 5.6% last year and are on track to grow 6.4% this year, according to Zillow.
Vincent Arroyo Winery (Calistoga, Calif.)
Calistoga’s location in the heart of Napa makes this town a prime locale for wine lovers. On top of that, local vineyard Vincent Arroyo has a reputation for excellence reaching far beyond the valley: House Beautiful ranks it the “#1 winery in California,” and Travel & Leisure rates it the “#1 Vineyard in the U.S.” Tourism to Calistoga is no doubt one reason why real estate in the city is running hot: Zillow reports that the median home value rose a whopping 18.9% the past year and is set to rise another 6.7% before this year is out.
Pride Mountain Vineyards (Santa Rosa, Calif.)
The county seat of Sonoma, Santa Rosa is a prime hub in California wine country. And if wine lovers pass through Santa Rosa, chances are they’ll stop by Pride Mountain. The vineyard’s rich array of fine red wines is highly recommended, and the surrounding mountain vistas are some of the most scenic in the valley. Santa Rosa itself offers plenty more reasons to visit: bike paths, hiking, museums, and other outdoor fun all year round. In all, it’s an excellent place for a rental home spot all year round.
Von Stiehl Winery (Algoma, Wisc.)
Von Stiehl is situated near some historic limestone caverns that offer tours, putting it at a great crossroads of green scenery and cool history. The winery throws in a few extra attractions all its own, like its unique Door County Montmorency Cherry Wine. Algoma’s housing market is healthy, going by the Zillow data, which records a slow but steady growth in median home values of 3.8% last year and 3% expected this year.
